The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced to distribute free smartphones and tablets to final year students on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee i.e, December 25. Nearly one crore students including girls from each district of UP are likely to benefit from this scheme. The initiative aims at making students technically advanced.
The CM will be distributing 60,000 smartphones and 40,000 tablets to the students in the first phase on December 25 at Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. As per the reports, more than 38 lakh students have registered themselves on the Digi Shakti Portal to date. The registration is going on and those who haven’t completed the registration earlier can still do the same.
Final-year students of MA, BA, BSc, ITI, MBBS, MD, Btech, Mtech, PhD, MSME and skill development etc. will get priority in the first phase.
More Than 10.5 lakh smartphones and 7.20 lakh tablets have been ordered
Kumar Vineet, special secretary, department of IT & Electronics has shared that the government has already placed orders for mobile phones and tablets to reputed companies like Lava, Samsung and Acer. The companies will start delivering the gadgets by December 24. According to the official statement, an order of about₹2,035 crore has been placed for mobiles and tablets in the first phase. Nearly 10.5 lakh mobile phones have been ordered at the rate of₹10,740 each while 7.20 lakh tablets have been ordered at the rate of₹12,606.

The applicants must be a student and a resident of Uttar Pradesh. They must be studying in the final year of the undergraduate or postgraduate courses. Those studying in the final year of MA, BA, MBBS, BSc, ITI, MD, BTech, and MTech among others will be given priority. Students must have secured got 60% or above to be eligible to apply for the scheme. Also, the annual income of the family should not be more than 2 lakh.
