YouTube is the second most visited website on the internet, with the first one being Google itself. With over 2.3 billion monthly active users, the company managed to generate $19.7 billion in revenue last year.
The platform is affected by several bugs and issues like the ‘Watch Later’ hovering thumbnail relocated and the ‘Show More’ button not working for some desktop users.
It even has a dedicated Kids app that features curated content, parental controls that allows you to restrict screen time and view content depending on the age group.
That being said, YouTube Kids users are now reporting that they are seeing a unlock timer feature button on the bottom right of the screen.
Many said that they deleted the app and reinstalled the YouTube Kids app on their Amazon Fire Tablet but the unlock timer feature red box does not go away. You can see in the image below how it looks like.
Hi, a red box has appeared on the bottom right of my kids you tube screen, on Amazon fire tablet. Unlock timer feature. Can some please explain how to get rid of this, please? If says switch on in all purchasing, which I did and it says we have a purchase I need to authorise for £3.77, which I didn’t do. Can I delete the purhcase ? Thanks in advance(Source)
I also have this issue and the red unlock timer feature is now a big red band blocking the bottom of the screen, very annoying! Please help to get this removed, I do not want to paying for this feature, thanksEdit: this message only comes up on the Amazon fire kids tablet, it doesn’t come up on kids you tube app on my iPad(Source)
Fortunately, a YouTube Kids Community Manager has shed some light on the matter and said that the YouTube Kids app is not officially available on Amazon Fire Tablets. They also said that YouTube doesn’t ask for any payment to unlock additional features.
Hi all, Just wanted to confirm: The YouTube Kids app is not available on Amazon Fire tablets and YouTube doesn’t ask for any payment to unlock features. If you see a red “Unlock timer features” at the bottom of your YouTube Kids experience, you’re using an app that is not the official YouTube Kids app. To access our web version of YouTube Kids on your Amazon Fire tablet, visit youtubekids.com directly from your device’s browser. Thanks for raising this to us!(Source)
It looks like users are running some third-party app that gives them access to the web version of YouTube Kids. A user said that the app is not the YouTube Kids app but one named Kids Tube, which is not the official version.
We advise users not to make the purchase or enter their Amazon login credentials in the app since it might be an identity theft scam.
