The beginning of the endCould this be the start of the end for scalpers?Robert CarnevaleSource: Rich Edmonds / Windows Central
Update March 18, 2022, at 3:30 PM ET: Party's over; it looks like most of the graphics cards are now sold out. Still, keep an eye on EVGA's page in case more stock appears.
It's been a long, rocky road for anyone attempting to get the best graphics cards or any sort of highly sought-after PC gaming component. Since 2020, it's been near impossible for many people to score a graphics card at standard prices without arduous waits outside of Best Buys, online raffling schemes, and other such shenanigans.
That's what the global chip shortage has done to the market. But analysts predict the worst may be over by the end of 2022, so long as you're a computer tech geek (car fans may have to wait until sometime in 2023 for the situation to stabilize).
One piece of evidence supporting this theory is that in March, three months into 2022, we're now seeing EVGA graphics cards remain available for longer than a few hours at their standard MSRPs (via Tom's Hardware). Now, mind you, those "standard" prices are still extraordinarily expensive since their corresponding products are in the high-end of PC gaming components, but even so, seeing anything in stock for any length of time is rare.
As to what you can still buy directly from EVGA: You have choices (yes, actual choices!). At the time of this writing, there's a watercooled EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 12GB for $1,349, GeForce RTX 3080 12GB for $1,299, GeForce RTX 3080 Ti for $1,429, and more. In other words, if you're willing to shell out top dollar for a high-end EVGA GPU, you won't have to go through scalpers.
There are in-stock listings starting at $1,299 (just hit the "in stock" filter on the site), so if you're desperate for an RTX 3080 or RTX 3080 Ti, EVGA's site is the way to go.
